City officials want you to think twice before throwing away your old telephone directories.
Recycling one ton of phone books saves about 17 trees and three cubic yards of landfill space, according to ecology experts.
So cities throughout Orange County are urging residents this month to recycle rather than dump their old phone books when the new 1994-95 directories arrive.
Some local trash haulers plan to give the discarded directories to paper mills for recycling.
