Birmingham High football Coach Chick Epstein said he will resign after 17 years as the Braves’ mentor at the conclusion of the City Section 3-A Division playoffs.
“It’s been great,” said Epstein, 52. “It’s a noble profession, but I wanted a chance to enjoy my home life and my family. I’ll let somebody young take over.”
Epstein will continue to teach and coach golf at the Van Nuys school.
The Braves, who play a first-round playoff game tonight at Reseda, earned playoff berths six times during Epstein’s tenure. His career record there was 75-82-4.
