Bookstore Survives

It was with some surprise that I read about the demise of Eric Chaim Kline, Bookseller in Stephen Games’ Oct. 16 commentary, “Superstores, Narrowed Choices,” which reviews the impact of superstores on the Los Angeles book scene.
To set the record straight, my store at 1343 4th St. in Santa Monica was destroyed by the Jan. 17 Los Angeles earthquake and not by the competition of the superstores. Within two weeks of the quake we were operating out of an office--now moved to LAX--and have been available by appointment, filling special orders, responding to our clients’ needs, and reachable by phone at our old number, which is still listed and in force.
