Home Buyers Average $46,000 Down Payment

Ventura County home buyers came up with an average down payment of $46,000 during the third quarter. That’s 19% of the average selling price of $243,000 during the period, Dataquick Information Systems reports.
In comparison, buyers in Orange County made the highest down payment among Southern California counties, averaging $52,000. Purchasers in San Bernardino County put down the least--$14,000.
Among California cities, the highest average down payment was $370,000 in Beverly Hills. The lowest was $3,000 in Bakersfield.
