OUTLOOK
A team on the rise, the Spartans should match the three victories they recorded last season pretty early, possibly in the first three games. Chenowith, alone, should put them in second place at the end of the league season. He has grown 3 1/2 inches in a year and the improvement in his game has also been significant. He averaged six points last season, but that should go way up this season. Just how big a turnaround the Spartans experience depends on the supporting cast. Furuta gets a lot out of his size. He averaged six points and was an honorable mention all-league selection. He will provide stability at point guard. Then come the questions. Hutson was a key reserve and likely will fill a starting spot. Hutson is the team’s best outside shooter, so he’ll have the burden of keeping opponents from packing it in on defense. The rest will be dumped on the newcomers. There’s some size in the group, but also many questions.
