BEIJING — A Chinese court sentenced to death a man convicted of arson after he set fire to the dormitory of his lover--killing 12 people--when she jilted him, the New China News Agency said.
Zhang Zongling was found guilty by the People’s Intermediate Court in Jinan, capital of eastern Shandong province, of killing 12 people and injuring two in the Oct. 30 arson attack, the agency said Sunday.
He decided to take revenge after his lover, a classmate at the Shandong Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, jilted him, and he set fire to her dormitory, the agency said. It did not say whether Zhang’s lover was among the victims.
Most executions in China are carried out immediately after sentencing.
