GARDEN GROVE : 35 Community Helpers to Get Police Awards

The Police Department is celebrating the first year of community policing here by honoring residents, organizations and business owners who helped launch the program.
Thirty-five so-called “partners” will be recognized at an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Community Center.
As part of the celebration, there will be exhibits and a video presentation of various community events during the first year of the community policing program, including neighborhood cleanups and picnics.
A police team that operates a substation at the Stuart Drive neighborhood recently won an award from Orange County Together, a nonprofit group that promotes community spirit and racial harmony.
The Community Center, at 10300 Stanford Ave., will open at 6 p.m. for those interested in seeing the exhibits. Information about police programs, such as the K-9 unit, DARE, SWAT and Traffic Safety, will be available.
