Harvard-Westlake High’s Romy Mehlman has signed a national letter of intent to play tennis at the University of Illinois.
Mehlman, the Wolverines’ No. 1 singles player, chose the Illini over Northwestern, Princeton and Wisconsin.
“I loved all the schools,” she said. “But when i took the trip to Illinois, I had the feeling that it was the perfect place for me. I was most like the girls on the Illinois team. We just clicked.”
Mehlman, a senior, had a 29-1 Mission League record this season.
She is rated 10th in the state and among the nation’s top 50 players in the girls’ 18-and-under division of the United States Tennis Assn.
