Three suspected gang members were arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of firing shots at Ventura police officers, authorities said.
The officers were responding to a complaint about a group of youths standing on a corner in Cabrillo Village about 1:15 a.m. When the patrol car arrived, the youths ran from the area firing at the officers, police said.
While the officers took cover, the suspects jumped into a car and sped away, police said. Another patrol car located the fleeing suspects and stopped their car. The officers searched the car and found a handgun in the passenger side of the car, police said.
Arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon were Edward Zizumbo, 21, and Ivan Flores, 19, both of Ventura. A 16-year-old Ventura boy was also arrested on the charge, police said. No motive was given for the assault.
