‘Euphoric Bliss’

The Natural History Museum is offering a golden opportunity to see 14 masterworks of priceless jewelry by Italian craftsman Gianmaria Buccellati.
The exhibit, on view through Jan. 8, showcases Buccellati’s intricate imitations of Italian Renaissance and French Rococo goldsmithery and use of lapidary materials and precious gems.
“Buccellati hides in the detail,” said Larry French, director of the Buccellati exhibit. “The real art is between the stones.”
The Milan artist’s craftsmanship can be seen in the texture of the gold surfaces.
In “The Cup of Euphoric Bliss,” Buccellati created a golden swan designed around an antique piece of moss jasper. Fine details, such as its diamond eyes and finely worked gold at the foot of the cup, are Buccellati’s hallmark.
The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $2 for children. Information: (213) 744-3466.
