Santa Barbara 43, Rio Mesa 6--Running back Kahlid Hurst’s 94-yard touchdown run on Santa Barbara’s first play from scrimmage set the pace for the route at Rio Mesa.
Hurst scored two more times on runs of 13 and six yards, and finished with 253 yards in 24 carries.
The lone bright spot for the Spartans (1-9, 1-6) came early in the fourth quarter when quarterback Farhaad Azimi hit Randy Hurt down the sideline for 27 yards to the Don five-yard line. Running back Rashad Rose scored on the next play.
The victory gives Santa Barbara (6-3-1, 4-2-1) a chance at a possible at-large playoff berth.
