Detergent Ad Gets Clean Bill of Health: The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has ruled in favor of Procter & Gamble in a dispute over the company’s advertising claims for its Ultra Cheer laundry detergent. Competitor Lever Bros. had challenged the accuracy of the Cheer ad that claims “There’s no better guard against colors that run.” Lever Bros., maker of Double Power Wisk, said its tests showed that Cheer’s ability to keep dyes from bleeding was no different than that of its own products. Though the NAD ruled that Lever Bros.’ results would call into question any claim of Cheer’s superiority, it could not rebut the claim that there is “no better” guard against colors that run.
