COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Valley, Riverside Win Cross-Country Titles

The results of the Orange Empire Conference cross-country championships held true to form Saturday at Fairview Regional Park in Costa Mesa.
Irvine Valley won the women’s title and Riverside took first for the men.
It was the fourth consecutive title for the Lasers, who finished with 44 points. Riverside (68) was second and Rancho Santiago (86) finished third.
Riverside took the first four places in the men’s race and won with 19 points. Fullerton (67) was second and Orange Coast (73) third.
Riverside’s Charlotte Mayock won the 5,000-meter race in 18 minutes 51 seconds, 52 seconds off her winning time in September in a race on the same course. OCC’s Erin Remy (19:12) was second, Irvine Valley’s Mayra Medina (19:43) third, Golden West’s Kim Foster (19:40) fourth and Teresa Vega (19:56) of Fullerton fifth. Remy improved 41 seconds and Medina 37 seconds.
Riverside’s Wilhelm Gidabuday won the men’s four-mile race in 18:59, 21 seconds faster than his winning time in September. Riverside took the next three spots and Dax Baca of Irvine Valley was fifth in 20:42.
