WESTMINSTER : Mayor Cites Plans for Term in Cities League

Mayor Charles V. Smith recently was installed as president of the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities. He will serve for a year.
Smith, 61, said he plans to form special task forces to address issues such as immigration and the state’s continued efforts to balance its budget on the backs of cities.
He said cities must lobby for change in state government, which he said is incapable of solving its financial problems.
Smith, who is running unopposed in the mayoral election Tuesday, was chairman of the Orange County Division’s selection committee, which appoints city representatives to various commissions and committees, including the Orange County Transportation Authority, the Air Quality Management District, the Local Agency Formation Commission and the Harbors, Beaches and Parks Commission.
The league’s Orange County Division is composed of 156 council members from 30 Orange County cities. The organization works on countywide and regional issues and provides legislative advocacy, legal information and municipal training services.
