‘NYPD’ Ratings Soar as Caruso Bids Adieu

David Caruso’s final appearance on “NYPD Blue” Tuesday night helped generate the highest ratings in the show’s history, ABC reported Wednesday.
The police drama was seen by about 28.8 million people, ABC said, representing 34% of the available audience. The episode ended with Caruso’s character, Det. John Kelly, being transferred to a desk job in another precinct--a move necessitated by Caruso’s decision to leave the series to pursue a movie career.
