NEWHALL — A 34-year-old Sylmar man accidentally ran over and killed his 4-year-old daughter Friday when the girl ran into the path of his pickup truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
Francisco Olea Barragan had backed up about 20 feet with a load of lumber in his truck when his daughter, Lydia O. Garcia, ran into its path, CHP Officer Rich Perez said. The accident occurred at a ranch near Sierra Highway and Foothill Boulevard just before 1 p.m., Perez said.
“He didn’t realize she was standing behind the truck and he ran over the daughter,” Perez said.
No further details were available Friday night.
