THE GOVERNOR’S RACE * What Happened Thursday: Republican Pete Wilson spent the day preparing for Friday night’s gubernatorial debate, then traveled to San Francisco in the evening for a fund-raiser featuring former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger. Democrat Kathleen Brown, like Wilson, spent the day boning up on issues likely to be discussed in the debate.
* What’s Ahead: The only debate of the gubernatorial race between Wilson and Brown is scheduled for tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 in Sacramento. It will be broadcast live on many public television stations statewide.
THE SENATE RACE * What Happened Thursday: Sen. Dianne Feinstein attended a neighborhood police meeting in Riverside and a town meeting and public lunch in San Bernardino. Rep. Mike Huffington addressed the Orange County Forum. * What’s Ahead: Democratic nominee Feinstein tours the Port of Ventura with Republican Rep. Elton Gallegly, with whom she worked to secure federal funding for a port jetty that will benefit commercial fishermen. She will then tour a manufacturing plant in Orange County with GOP luminary Peter Ueberroth. Republican Huffington has no public events scheduled.
