HOLLYWOOD : Water Erupts From 6 Broken Pipes

Water shot up from streets and sidewalks Tuesday after a series of mains ruptured under heavy pressure, but there was no major damage.

“It sure was strange to see,” said Hollywood resident Joe Shea, who took a tour of the streets. “There were little fountains blowing right out of the sidewalk and out of the pavement, streams of water running down the middle of the street.”

The six breaks were reported around Hollywood Boulevard and under the Hollywood Freeway on Monday night. Workers replaced ruptured portions of the pipes overnight and by 6:30 a.m. had restored service to the 40 customers who were cut off, authorities said.
