SIMI VALLEY : Boy Hurt After Bike Strikes Police Car

A teen-ager suffered minor injuries when his bicycle collided with a Simi Valley police car while it was turning right onto Royal Avenue early Wednesday across from Royal High School, authorities said.
Victor L. Jiminez, 17, of Simi Valley was injured when his bicycle struck the cruiser--driven by Officer Dave Weiner--as the car was turning from southbound Buckskin Avenue to westbound Royal Avenue about 8:30 a.m., Lt. Tony Harper said.
He said Jiminez, whose injuries were treated by the school nurse, had been riding on the north sidewalk of Royal when his bicycle jumped the curb just west of Buckskin and collided with the squad car as it was turning right onto Royal.
The youth was at fault, Harper said, because he failed to yield the right of way to the police car, which the lieutenant estimated was going about 5 m.p.h.
Jiminez suffered abrasions to his left knee and complained of a sore right knee, Harper said.
Neither the car nor the bicycle had any damage, he added.
