LONG BEACH : Civic Light Opera Will Receive $100,000 Grant

The struggling Long Beach Civic Light Opera will receive $100,000 from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation over three years, theater officials announced.
The Knight Foundation grant will help theater officials match a $490,000 funding package offered by the city last month. The city funding will be available, provided the Civic Light Opera can raise a matching amount.
The theater has struggled with low ticket sales and mounting costs. This year’s opening production, “Can-Can,” was postponed from this month to January after two top officials departed this summer.
