LYNWOOD : New Complex Features Jail, Courts, Crime Lab

City and county officials have opened a $117-million complex that houses a maximum-security jail, a sheriff’s station, three courtrooms and a regional crime laboratory.
The Lynwood Regional Justice Center, on a 19-acre site at Alameda Street and Imperial Highway, has been under construction since 1991. The jail can accommodate 1,688 inmates. The sheriff’s station is the new home for deputies from the old Firestone and Lynwood stations.
About 1,500 people attended opening ceremonies last month, including Sheriff Sherman Block, Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, former Supervisor Kenneth Hahn and Lynwood Mayor Paul H. Richards II.
“This is hopefully the future of law enforcement,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Lindsey. “We’re bringing the courts, the jail and law enforcement together to streamline the system.”
