EL MONTE: A 41-year-old El Monte man...

EL MONTE: A 41-year-old El Monte man who was allegedly trying to steal copper wire from an electrical transformer was hospitalized Monday after he touched a live wire. William Albert was severely burned in the 3:30 a.m. incident, which caused a brief power failure in southeast El Monte. He was taken to Greater El Monte Hospital for treatment.

LA VERNE: A 35-year-old Ontario man and his 9-year-old daughter remained hospitalized Tuesday after their car rolled over during a two-car accident Sunday. Brian Sterling and daughter Nancy were airlifted to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center after the 2 p.m. accident at Arrow Highway and Fairplex Drive. Brian Sterling was listed in fair condition with broken bones in both legs, and Nancy was listed in serious condition with facial fractures. Sterling’s car was traveling east on Arrow Highway when it collided with another vehicle trying to make a left turn in a controlled intersection. The driver of the other car, Thang Nguyen of Long Beach, was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he was treated and released. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

POMONA: Two men and a teen-age boy were arrested on suspicion of auto burglary Friday night after police conducted a stakeout in a parking area used as a shuttle location for the Los Angeles County Fair. Shawn Donald Pruitt, 19, of Ontario, Sixto Barrera, 20, of Chino and a 17-year-old boy from Ontario were arrested after police officers saw one of the suspects cut into the soft top of a car, reach in, open the car door and get in. Police were conducting the stakeout because of two reports of auto burglaries the previous evening.

SAN DIMAS: Sheriff’s deputies arrested nine people on suspicion of manufacturing methamphetamine after a raid on a 40-acre plot of land Sept. 29. Deputies said they found a portable meth lab and 3,300 pounds of red phosphorus--a chemical used in the making of methamphetamine--in various trailers on Sycamore Canyon Road. All nine suspects, who are from various cities in the San Gabriel Valley, were taken to the Walnut Sheriff’s station, where they were each held on $500,000 bail.

SAN GABRIEL: A 24-year-old San Gabriel man who had holed up in his house Monday surrendered to sheriff’s deputies after they fired tear gas into his house. Deputies were sent to the 5300 block of Burton Avenue at 6:45 a.m. to serve a warrant to Guiseppe Dell Acqua, 24, who was wanted on a weapons violation. Acqua was taken to the Temple City Sheriff’s Station on suspicion of weapons violations. He is being held on $85,000 bail.
