Xanthos Named Coach of the Year

PALM SPRINGS — Former North Hollywood High and Pierce College tennis Coach Paul Xanthos was named coach of the year Wednesday by the United States Professional Tennis Assn. at its national convention.
Xanthos, 73, who compiled a 548-103 record and won conference championships in 23 of 29 seasons at Pierce, has spent much of his career teaching the sport to players and other coaches worldwide. Earlier this year, the Woodland Hills resident was the first junior college coach inducted into the NCAA Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame.
