AST to Sell Server Computers With Advanced Repair Features

IRVINE — AST Research Inc. said it will announce today a new line of advanced computers known as servers, which are installed at the center of networks of 25 to 200 personal computers.

Known as the Manhattan series, AST’s new computers will sell for between $4,000 to $7,500 each, depending on the capabilities that customers order, said Chris Norman, an AST brand manager. Shipments will begin later this month, he said.

The new series includes features to help system administrators make repairs and upgrades without shutting down all the other machines on the network, he said.
