COLLEGE ROUNDUP : San Jose State Defeats UC Irvine in Soccer

San Jose State rallied for three goals in the second half to beat host UC Irvine, 3-2, in UCI/Nike men’s soccer tournament Friday.
P.J. Polowski and Jon Szczuka scored in the first half for Irvine (1-1), which plays Cal State San Bernardino at 4 p.m. Sunday.
In nonconference women’s soccer:
California 2, UC Irvine 1--Kerry Benefield scored in the 81st minute to break a 1-1 tie for 14th-ranked California at home. Senior midfielder Shawna Berkre scored UC Irvine’s goal at the 54-minute mark to tie it, 1-1.
In the Redlands Invitational:
Redlands 3, Southern California College 2--Megan Conner and Joy Pelletier each scored one goal and Amy Lewis recorded six saves for visiting Southern California College (1-2-1).
In Whittier women’s volleyball tournament:
Shawna Parkinson had a total of 21 kills to help Chapman (4-0) defeat Mt. St. Mary, Cal Lutheran and Southern California College in the first day of pool play.
