Champion ballroom dancers from around the world will compete and perform for the public during the 1994 Embassy Ballroom Dance Championships Friday through Sunday at the Red Lion Hotel, 3050 Bristol St., Costa Mesa. Competitions will begin each evening at 6:30 (doors open at 6) followed by exhibition performances at 11 p.m. Friday (with Marcus and Karen Hilton of London) and Saturday (with Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather of Scotland) and 10:45 p.m. Sunday with winners in each dance category. The event is sanctioned by the National Dance Council of America. Tickets: $30 per day at the door. Advance reservations: (714) 963-9092.
The Laguna Art Museum will hold its annual Docents Coffee Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m. to explain what it takes to be a volunteer tour guide. Those who sign on to become guides will attend a series of Tuesday morning training classes. The museum is at 307 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach. (714) 494-3054 or (714) 494-8971.
