The Boys and Girls Club of Fullerton has agreed to allow a local brewery and restaurant to donate a portion of its proceeds from a beer tasting fund-raiser to be held Saturday and Sunday to the club.
“We don’t advocate nor do we promote the sale of beer,” said M.E. Raco, Boys and Girls Club executive director. “But when you have a company donating money to us, we don’t want to turn it down, especially in today’s economy. Funds are tough to get.”
He said the donation, which will be at least $500, will be used to pay for club membership and computer class enrollment fees for needy children.
The children will not be told where the money to pay their fees came from and posters and flyers advertising Fullerton Hofbrau’s “Summer Karnival of Beers” event are not being allowed in the club, Raco said.
About a dozen breweries from throughout California and Oregon will provide 36 different types of beer to taste at the fund-raiser, which takes place from noon to 2 p.m. 3 to 5 p.m., 6 to 8 p.m. and 9 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 2 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Fullerton Hofbrau, 323 N. State College Blvd.
Cost of the beer tasting is $25.
