SAN JOSE — Borland International Corp. said Monday it is shipping the long-awaited version of its dBASE software for Windows, a program the company hopes will help it recover from rough financial times.
The software, dBASE 5.0, is the first version of the popular database program that can be used with the Windows operating system. About 15 million people worldwide use older versions of dBASE.
The new program, shipping this week, is also the first version that can be used with client-server systems--large computer networks increasingly used in businesses--as well as personal computers and smaller networks.
