SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : City Will Buy Old Fire Station Site

The city has decided to buy the Old San Juan Capistrano Fire Station site from the county.
The City Council voted last week to pay $265,000 for the property at 31411 La Matanza St., where the city operates community services programs.
Since 1982, the city had been leasing buildings on the site for $1 a year, but the county told city officials this year that the arrangement would be ending for financial reasons.
The city had the option of buying the property or paying fair market rent, according to Cynthia Pendleton, the city’s administrative services director.
Pendleton said the monthly payments to buy the property will be significantly lower than rent would have been. The property is being financed at 8% over 30 years.
If the city ever develops the property for commercial use, the county is to receive 80% of the revenue generated.
