World IN BRIEF : KUWAIT : U.S., Kuwaiti Troops Stage Maneuvers

Kuwaiti and U.S. troops staged joint maneuvers and U.S. jets bombed abandoned Iraqi tanks in the desert, displaying U.S. resolve to protect the emirate on the fourth anniversary of Iraq’s invasion. About 1,500 American soldiers and several hundred Kuwaitis participated in the exercises. The maneuvers were the latest in a series of joint exercises staged under a 10-year defense pact that Kuwait signed with Washington in 1991.
