The event, part of “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” begins at 7 p.m. in the parking lot behind Montgomery Ward on Roscoe Boulevard. The organizers will hand out balloons and lead a candlelight march through the neighborhood, then return to the parking lot at about 7:45 p.m.
Assemblyman Richard Katz (D-Sylmar) will speak, as will Councilman Richard Alarcon and Officer Tim Bergstrom of the Police Department, according to the organizers. There will be a period between speakers for neighbors to get acquainted. For information call Leslie Yamashita at (818) 892-7199.
The purpose of the event is to show criminals that the neighborhood plans to unite to drive out them out, said Yamashita. Participants are asked to bring flashlights to serve as candles.
