U.S.-Japan Talks Unable to Reach Accord: The United States and Japan wrapped up trade talks in two of three areas without an agreement. Both sides were aiming to reach an agreement by the opening of the G-7 meeting of industrialized nations in Naples on Friday--the first anniversary of this preliminary round of trade talks. The three areas--opening up Japan’s markets for insurance; for autos and auto parts, and getting the Japanese government to buy more American medical and telecommunications equipment--are the heart of the framework talks.
