Fireworks to Light Up Local Skies on 4th

Several large fireworks displays will be presented Monday night. Here are some of the local shows planned to celebrate Independence Day.
Cal State Northridge North Campus
Zelzah Avenue and Devonshire Street
Gates open at 2 p.m., with entertainment at 4:30.
Fireworks show starts at 9.
Tickets: $12 for adults, $7 for children 4 to 11 and senior citizens, free for children 4 and younger.

Sunland-Tujunga Independence Day Parade
Sponsored y the Sunland-Tujunga Rotary Club, the 12th Annual Independence Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Mt. Gleason Avenue. The parade will continue west along Foothill, ending at the Sunland Park and Recreation Center. Parade guests will include state Sen. Newton R. Russell (R-Glendale) , Assemblyman Bill Hoge (R- Pasadena) and Los Angeles City Councilman Joel Wachs. Following the parade, the park located at 8651 Foothill Blvd. will host a variety of activities until 6 p.m., including food, arts and crafts, games and live entertainment. Admission is free. Stars and Stripes Festival
Santa Clarita’s Stars and Stripes Festival will begin at 10 a.m. Monday with a parade starting at the intersection of Walnut and Market streets. The parade will continue north along Walnut, west along Lyons Avenue, north along Orchard Village Road, east along Dalbey Drive and will endat Newhall Memorial Park. Following the parade, the park located at 24933 Newhall Ave. will host an arts and crafts fair from noon to 4 p.m., featuring games, contests, arts and crafts and live entertainment, including the Santa Clarita Valley Concert Band, the Volunteers of Dixieland Fire Brigade and Joe Vento’s Big Band Jazz All-Stars, but no fireworks. Admission is free, but there is a $2 entry fee for cake-decorating, pie-and bread-baking and vegetable-growing contests. Information: (805) 298-2787.
