Bosnia Clashes Hurt Efforts to Revive Talks

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Government and Serbian forces pounded each other Wednesday in northern Bosnia, frustrating efforts by international negotiators to revive stalled peace talks.
The Yugoslav news agency Tanjug said Muslim troops were shelling Serbian positions around Tesanj, 60 miles northwest of Sarajevo. Tesanj and nearby Maglaj have been surrounded and cut off by besieging Serbs for much of the 2-year-old war.
Bosnian government radio accused Serbs of shelling three towns north of Sarajevo and said one person was killed in shelling of Bihac in northwest Bosnia.
The fighting did not bode well for efforts by U.S., Russian and European envoys to revive peace talks. The envoys met separately with factional leaders at a mountain resort in France.
