State Sen. Leroy F. Greene (D-Carmichael) has canceled tonight’s meeting at which he was scheduled to discuss the Santa Ana Unified School District’s controversial “space saver” school project.
Citing scheduling conflicts, Greene canceled the meeting, which was planned for 7 p.m. in Rancho Santiago College’s Philips Hall, said Diane Thomas, spokeswoman for the school district.
Greene is a member of the State Allocation Board, which funds proposed space-saver projects, campuses built vertically instead of horizontally so they take up less area in crowded urban neighborhoods. Such schools are designed to avoid the need for condemnation of property to create new campuses. He also authored the legislation promoting space-saver schools.
No new meeting has been scheduled, Thomas said.
