Cathy Prater
SCHOOL: Agoura
SPORT: Track and field
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: The regional leader in the 300-meter low hurdles (43.88 seconds), Prater also ranks third in the 100 highs (15.32) and triple jump (35 feet 11 inches) and fifth in the 200 (26.00). She holds Agoura records in all four events and has run 2 minutes 23 seconds in the 800.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Prater, who has committed to UC Davis, ran 43.88 in the 300 low hurdles to win the Southern Section Division I championship Saturday at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. Her time moved her to seventh on the all-time regional list and is the fastest performance by a local athlete since Canyon’s Cindy Byrne ran 43.47 to win the 1988 title. “I’ve been waiting for (a sub-44-second clocking) for a long time,” said Prater, whose previous best was 44.45. “I feel so much stronger and faster than last year that I figured it had to happen sometime.”
