SANTA CLARITA — An Azusa man who was arrested on suspicion of robbing and assaulting another passenger in the bathroom of a bus as it traveled south on the Golden State Freeway apparently hadn’t thought much about how he would make his escape.
Derrick Collier, 34, was arrested after he followed Vincent Schultz, 46, of Orange into the bathroom at the rear of the bus about 2:15 a.m. Monday, said Deputy Corry Cline of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Santa Clarita Valley Station.
Schultz told authorities that Collier punched him several times and emptied the contents of his pockets onto the bathroom floor before taking his money. Collier then returned to his seat, where he stayed until authorities arrested him.
Collier was taken into custody after Schultz reported the incident to the bus driver, who notified authorities and stopped near Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia.
Schultz was treated for minor facial injuries at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and released, authorities said.
