City Seeking to Annex Land

At the request of homeowners, the Calabasas City Council has proposed annexing a gated community that abuts land slated for the controversial Ahmanson Ranch project.
Annexing the 825-acre Mountain View Estates would give Calabasas control over a larger section of Thousand Oaks Boulevard--a proposed access to Ahmanson Ranch--but would not block plans for the mini-city, said Calabasas Planning Director Steve Harris.
Calabasas must get permission to annex the land from the Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission, which oversees boundary changes. Calabasas sent its application to the commission this month, Harris said.
The application was filed after 49 residents of the area north of the Ventura Freeway between the city line and Crummer Canyon Road petitioned Calabasas officials, saying they wanted to enjoy the benefits of living in the city. The area includes Gates Canyon Park.
