Gang Prevention Effort in Spanish

A conference designed to show Spanish-speaking parents how to keep their children from joining gangs is scheduled for Saturday.
The conference, which will be conducted entirely in Spanish, is sponsored by Alcance Victoria Church of Santa Ana and will take place at First Christian Church of Santa Ana, 1720 W. 17th St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A highlight of the conference will be testimonials from former gang members about the gang lifestyle and how they escaped. Workshops on how to guide children into looking forward to their futures, staying in school and out of street gangs are also planned.
Teachers and volunteer mentors will offer advice and their services to help parents to encourage their children to succeed in school and life, conference organizers said.
