Settler Also African

In the April 10 article “Park District in a Squeeze,” the reporter writes of the Pico family, who built the Simi Adobe, the oldest structure in Simi Valley. The article mentioned the family as “the first Spanish settlers in Simi Valley.”
Isn’t this the same Pico family as Pio Pico, California’s governor from 1832 to 1833 and again from 1845 to 1846, who was of African descent? It would be nice if the African ancestry of the family was mentioned along with the Spanish.
