OXNARD : Man Pleads Insanity in Woman’s Slaying
- Share via
A 25-year-old man pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in connection with the Mother’s Day slaying of an Oxnard woman who was his former girlfriend.
Gary Michael Rose, who neighbors say moved to Oxnard just several weeks before the May 8 shooting, faces one count of murder with use of a firearm. He is being held at Ventura County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bail.
Neither Deputy Public Defender Douglas W. Daily nor Deputy Dist. Atty. Donald C. Glynn could be immediately reached for comment.
Police say that Rose shot 31-year-old Victoria Ramey in her La Canada Avenue home about 9:30 p.m. He called police to the scene after the shooting.
Friends of the victim say Rose moved to the area from Indiana and was staying with Ramey until he could find a job. Ramey, who neighbors said liked to help people, had been engaged to the defendant several years ago, friends said.
