CHINATOWN : Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Alleged School Attack
- Share via
A Los Angeles woman was held on $2-million bail Monday after she pleaded not guilty to firing a gun at school children last week in Chinatown.
No one was hurt in the incident Thursday, in which prosecutors contend that Charlotte De La Torre, 31, fired on children at a school on Alpine Street. She is charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Family members who were in court for De La Torre’s arraignment denied that she had fired at schoolchildren. They say the school is nearly two blocks from the shooting scene and that the woman was shooting instead at her roommate’s car, which was parked in front of their home.
They described De La Torre as having a mental illness that led her to believe someone was trying to harm her.
