Troubled Platinum Software Names New President: David R. Proctor, a former software executive at IBM, was hired as president and chief operating officer of the Irvine-based accounting software firm in the aftermath of an accounting scandal that forced out its four top executives last month. Proctor left International Business Machines Corp. in 1990 to run Torrance-based Ashton-Tate Corp., a database software publisher that was losing money. The firm was returned to profit and was sold in 1991 to Borland International Corp.
