Carol McEvoy Richardson, 49, who won an Emmy and acting roles for signing for the deaf. She won the Emmy for individual achievement because of her sign language news summaries during a five-year stint on KTTV in the early 1970s. Her pioneering work led to closed captions for the hearing-impaired. She also won a Golden Mike Award for her television work. Under the professional name of Carol McEvoy, she acted in films, including the role of the deaf mute Mrs. Albright in “The Towering Inferno.” In recent years, Mrs. Richardson was the public relations spokeswoman for the Ascot Park motor racing facility in Gardena. On May 13 in Van Nuys after a long illness.
