Rebecca Gilman
SCHOOL: Buena
SPORT: Swimming
YEAR: Freshman
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Gilman was the final piece of the puzzle for Buena, which won the Division I title for the second time in three seasons. One of the best long-distance age-group freestylers in the nation, Gilman joined a veteran team that dominated the Channel League, one of the strongest swimming leagues in the Southern Section.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: In the Southern Section Division I finals Friday night, Gilman swam the anchor leg on the victorious 200-yard medley relay and won the 200 freestyle to give the Bulldogs an overwhelming early lead. The Bulldogs finished with 221 points, 66 ahead of second-place Santa Barbara. Later in the evening, in the 500 freestyle, her automatic All-American time of 4:53.05 was more than four seconds faster than her closest pursuer. “It was a real exciting experience,” Gilman said. “I felt great as soon as I hit the water.”
