John Jenkins
SCHOOL: Crescenta Valley
SPORT: Swimming
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: After winning two races in the 1993 Southern Section Division II championships, Jenkins concentrated on swimming year-round for the first time. In March, he received his first invitation to the U.S. national championships.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: For the second year in a row, Jenkins won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races in the Division II finals Saturday night at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach. He also swam anchor legs on the victorious 200 and 400 freestyle relays, leading the Falcons to a second-place team finish. Jenkins’ split of 20.45 seconds in the 200 freestyle relay team helped the Falcons set a Division II record with a time of 1:26.75. “That record made the night worthwhile as a team. We didn’t win the team title but we came away with something,” Jenkins said. He was named the male swimmer of the meet for accumulating the most points.
