A few tips from parents for avoiding mealtime meltdowns:
* Look for restaurants that cater to families.
* Go during off hours to avoid a wait, or make reservations.
* Order the check with the meal so there won’t be an additional wait to leave.
* Take restless children for a walk.
* Bring crayons and paper or a small quiet toy.
* Bring a small snack or ask for crackers before the meal.
* Order appetizers or finger foods for toddlers.
* Bring your own toddler-sized utensils and cups for little ones.
* Ask for foam cups with lids for drinks.
* Always ask for extra napkins.
* Include your child in the dining experience.
* Don’t allow children to run around or disturb other customers.
* Discipline children away from the dining room.
* Reward good behavior.
