Airports May Go Private: Treasurer Ralph Willis said he expects to win Labor Party approval at the party’s national conference in September to sell the nation’s airports. The government wants to sell all of the Federal Airports Corp.’s 17 fields, which are valued at $1.5 billion, but leftists in the party rank and file oppose further sales of major state assets. Under the plan, Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, Sydney’s Mascot Airport and smaller regional fields would be sold off. The proposal has drawn interest from foreign operators. Among them is Lockheed Air Terminals, a division of Calabasas-based Lockheed Corp., which operates five U.S. airports.
