MARJAYOUN, Lebanon — Witnesses in this southern Lebanese town said Israeli planes attacked pro-Iranian guerrilla positions near here Saturday, but guerrillas and the Israeli army denied any attack took place.
Lebanese security sources in Sidon, southern Lebanon’s main city, also said they had no report of any Israeli air raid, and a Hezbollah (Party of God) spokesman denied a raid took place.
“There was nothing like this,” an Israeli army spokesman said in response to the report by witnesses who said they saw planes raiding the Iqlim Toufah ridge held by Shiite Muslim Hezbollah guerrillas, who frequently attack Israeli troops and their militia allies in a border occupation zone.
Marjayoun is held by the Israeli-backed South Lebanon Army.
