PREP VOLLEYBALL / CITY CHAMPIONSHIPS : University Tops Granada Hills

University defeated Granada Hills, 15-11, 15-2, 9-15, 15-10, in the City Section 4-A Division volleyball final Friday night at Cal State Northridge.
Outside hitters Raoul Williams of University and Mike DiSimone of Granada Hills accounted for most of the scoring. Williams, a left-handed sophomore, had 26 kills and DiSimone had 18.
The Warriors (15-1) have won five City 4-A titles. Granada Hills (15-2) is winless in two City 4-A title appearances.
“They could not stop our middle game,” University Coach Neal Newman said. “We did it with blocking and defense.” University also made fewer unforced errors.
3-A DIVISION
Marshall defeated Van Nuys, 15-6, 15-4, 15-8 to give departing Coach Marji Donatella the perfect going away present--another City volleyball title.
Marshall (17-0) used its height advantage and the superior setting of Darry Tse to win its second consecutive 3-A championship. Tse, Marshall’s only setter, had 57 assists. Teammate Eli Brueggemann had 22 kills.
Shane Karimoto had 10 kills to lead Van Nuys (15-2).
